Bill O’Reilly: Background Checks Make Sense

In The Young Turks on YouTube by goko loco1 Comment

A lot of people on the right (politicians, members of the media) are going batshit crazy over President Obama’s executive orders on gun control. That is certainly true of almost everyone of Fox News. But not Bill O’Reilly… Ana Kasparian and John Iadarola (Think Tank), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

“Fox News host Bill O’Reilly challenged the National Rifle Association and gun owners to be “reasonable” following President Barack Obama’s executive order on Tuesday concerning gun sale regulations.

“The FBI should background check anyone buying a firearm in America. That just makes sense,” O’Reilly said. “If you are paranoid and believe the government is stockpiling information so they can come to your house and take your guns, that’s your problem — your problem. But the government has an obligation to enhance public safety.””*

  1. Wow…Bill O’ Riley is (can’t believe I’m typing this) wrong…I mean right (sorry, just used to typing wrong after his name so much). Frankly if I could get rid of all the guns in the world I would. They are objects made to kill. I don’t get why people can’t understand that. Hunters don’t need assault rifles or hand guns to hunt and so those weapons should be extremely hard to get for any and all. The only thing that you would need a gun to protect yourself from (as far as I can see) is another person with a gun. So getting rid of guns entirely should be a priority. Police, especially, need to be trained to use a gun only as a last resort. They have tasers, batons, knives, a plethora of weapons to stop a threat. Reaching for their guns should be the very last thing they do and yet, threatening gesture-get your gun; rap music playing loudly-get your gun; littering-gun; protesting-gun; cat in a tree-gun.

Maybe it’s Hollywood’s fault for making so many action movies.

I like the point made about Australia: after only 1 mass shooting people turned in their guns and (surprisingly) mass shootings stopped. And England most cops don’t carry guns and (again, what a surprise) gun violence is extremely low.

“In terms of the police being approachable, in terms of the public being the eyes and ears of the police, officers don’t want to lose that”; a quote by former Met deputy assistant commissioner Brian Paddick. Approachability…though not technically grammatically correct, I don’t even think American cops are familiar with any term even remotely close to that.

The article that this info comes from is http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-19641398, where it is also stated that arming police would undermine “the notion that the force owes its primary duty to the public, rather than to the state, as in other countries” (ehem…other countries…aka…’merica..ehem, *cough* *cough*)
