The Memphis City Council is taking a step in the right direction, unanimously voting to remove a monument to Nathan Bedford Forest, the first Grand Wizard of the KKK. “The Memphis City council took steps on Tuesday to begin the process of removing a monument to Confederate War General Nathan Bedford Forrest, the nation’s first Ku Klux Klan “grand wizard.”
In an unanimous vote, the council approved a resolution for the removal of Bedford’s remains from under a statue in his honor that currently sits in Health Sciences Park on Union Avenue.”*
