We have so many ideas on how to improve your productivity process, it’s gone meta. If you need a quick way to jump start changes to your process, try moving your deadline.
Changing your deadline automatically alters one of the easiest things about your process to change: where it ends. Suddenly, the goal post isn’t in the same place, so you can fill the time differently. If you move up a deadline, that can make you more efficient, but it can also work in the opposite direction. As the band Title Fight explains, making a deadline farther out can be just as helpful:
So we could either really bust our asses and make it straight away, or wait really long and play that game. We were so hyped from doing ‘Shed’ and touring we decided to take that. It worked out because it put a kind of interesting pressure on us. This time around we agreed we wanted no pressure at all so we definitely took our time. It allowed us to experiment more and to try out more ideas and to really sit and reflect on the songs and on where we were going and all this stuff. We hadn’t had that opportunity before with a record so that was helpful. It was a conscious decision though, definitely.
