If you snagged a job at Reynolds American Inc. thinking the manufacturer of Camel cigarettes would be totally cool with you smoking at your desk or basically anywhere in the company’s offices, I have some super bad news for you.
According to the Associated Press, starting in 2015, Reynolds is saying bye-bye to smoking at desks, offices, conference rooms and elevators. I just cringed and made a horrible face at the idea of riding in an elevator with a bunch of people smoking. Who the hell does that?
The no-smoking policy will go into effect once Reynolds builds indoor smoking areas for those still wanting to light up indoors, spokesman David Howard said.
“We believe it’s the right thing to do and the right time to do it because updating our tobacco use policies will better accommodate both non-smokers and smokers who work in and visit our facilities,” Howard said. “We’re just better aligning our tobacco use policies with the realities of what you’re seeing in society today.”
Oh but don’t worry, if you use the company’s new Super Smokey Awesome product Eclipse, you can still pretty much smoke wherever the fuck you want.
Smoking is already prohibited in fitness centers on company grounds, but that won’t stop me from falling over laughing picturing tobacco executives wheezing it out on the StairMaster.
