Think Comic Convention Harassment Isn’t a Real Problem? Think Again.

We start this story of the tale of a 17-year old girl who was reported to have been assaulted while cosplaying at Comic-Con– there were a lot of conflicting reports about what happened between her and a 29-year old man, but police now think her injuries were consistent with a fall, not a beating.

But that’s not the end of the story. San Diego Comic-Con had to release a message to attendees not to sexually harass anyone, particularly cosplayers. And its an issue for a reason. Harassment and unwanted touching are things that happen and continue to happen, and denial of the problem is backwards and serves to help no one but the individuals who continue to victimize others.
