“Former American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry stepped in a pile of outrage this weekend when he awkwardly ditched a Fox & Friends attempt to sing “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” during the morning show’s after-show.

Friday morning was the 70th anniversary of the D-Day attacks, and so F&F host Steve Doocy suggested Daughtry (whose band was off-stage) sing a patriotic tune with the hosts, including Anna Kooiman, Clayton Morris, and Heather Childers.

Caught off-guard by the request, Daughtry joked that he is “off the clock,” which prompted some laughter and then an awkward pause in which the hosts fiddled around and seemingly tried to figure out what to do with themselves.”* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.
