Russia’s Online Troll Army Is Huge, Hilarious & Already Everywhere

“Russia’s campaign to shape international opinion around its invasion of Ukraine has extended to recruiting and training a new cadre of online trolls that have been deployed to spread the Kremlin’s message on the comments section of top American websites.

Plans attached to emails leaked by a mysterious Russian hacker collective show IT managers reporting on a new ideological front against the West in the comments sections of Fox News, Huffington Post, The Blaze, Politico, and WorldNetDaily.

The bizarre hive of social media activity appears to be part of a two-pronged Kremlin campaign to claim control over the internet, launching a million-dollar army of trolls to mold American public opinion as it cracks down on internet freedom at home.”* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

  1. Cent I am not a Russian troll trying to sway public opinion, I am an Australian who has bothered to look through all the anti-Russian AND pro-Russian propaganda. Your obvious bias against Putin and his mandate makes you come off as ignorant. I am a big fan of your work (mostly) and of the message your program puts out, especially re the recent psychedelic revival, but this is an area I constantly find myself in conflict with. I can’t say I know why the Americans despise Russia so much, but I could hazard an educated guess if you’ll indulge me. Anti-Russian propaganda has been part of the American way of life for the better part of 100 years, some might argue for good reason; Stalin was not a very nice person, and don’t forget it was the Russian people who suffered the most because of his policies. Russia has been the only country in the world has has come close to threatening the US, I’m not sure people understand actually HOW close (see Vasili Arkhipov wiki). It is time to embrace the new world, like Russia is doing, through civilized diplomacy and international economic integration. Not through financial blackmail and intimidation, like the US has been doing since the 2nd world war. I don’t now if what you are saying is true or not, on that basis perhaps it is you who is spreading propaganda since your best evidence to support your claim is an unofficial organisation called Anon Int, but even if it was true I think the aim of the Russian government would be to set the record straight, or another way of putting it might be, bringing a bit of balance to the discourse. Please watch the following video conducted by the French free press, I hope it might shed some light on some of the myths spread about Russian policy – http://rt.com/news/163676-putin-ukraine-french-us/
