For decades, police in New York had taken condoms from sex work suspects to be used as evidence in criminal trials. Because of this law, prostitutes and sex workers stopped carrying condoms on them, increasing the risk for the spread of AIDS and other STD’s.
Thanks to a change in the law, The NYPD will no longer confiscate unused condoms from suspected sex workers to be used as evidence of prostitution.
