Nothing to worry about? These are NOT first generation immigrants, just like Australia is the world’s #1 supplier of Jihadists in Syria, these are second, third or fourth generation Muslims so for some reason, dilution and living in a democratic society does not eliminate such extremist tendencies in Muslims… that’s unlike ALL other immigrants!
I think you missed Bill Maher’s point because he wasn’t clear. I don’t think he was equating Islam with the majority of terrorist attacks, but the fact that in today’s world there is a large consensus of Muslims that treat women in a dominant way which leads to the loss of rights of women and they are treated like 2nd class citizens.
Religious fundamentalism does this as a whole, and the problem isn’t just Muslims, but if you are going to talk about how a group of religious zealots can reconcile kidnapping girls and selling them into slavery, you have to address how their belief, in this case Islam, and the tenets of that religion are being twisted to allow women to be viewed as unequal to men, period.
The conversation really needs to be – how do you counteract the systematic degradation of women in society? Because, in truth, it doesn’t matter what your religion, this problem is worsening everywhere in the world. As long as we allow this slide backward, all societies lose.

impressed by the dishonesty of some comments. 1) The idea of women as property or second class citizens is present in many muslim countries. 2) 90% of all conflicts in the world involve muslims due to the obsession with jihad, dominating the infidels and creating the global caliphate. This needs to be addressed if you want change. Equally important is understanding that Islam -in its broad definition- is not just a “religion” or a “culture” but a totalitarian political ideology and legal system that permeates all aspects of society. With all its faults, mistakes and deficiencies, the western world found a solution a while back by separating church and state and making all citizens adhere to the rule of law.
The majority of muslims ARE NOT terrorists, however, the majority of terrorists (internationally) ARE muslims. For you to deny this brings into question your objectivity as a journalist.
