New Law Jails Pregnant Women For Drug Use

“Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam (R) signed a bill into law on Tuesday that is the first law in the country to authorize the arrest and incarceration of women who use drugs while pregnant. Reproductive and civil rights advocates had strongly urged Haslam to veto the legislation.”

  1. It’s a shame a bill like this even has to be proposed, drugs do hold a grim grip over peoples lives. I would expect to be arrested being caught using drugs but just for being pregnant I’m looking at automatic possibility of being jailed for using, unless substance abuse treatment? I hardly agree – and who pays for this substance abuse treatment, cause expect Tennessee jails making room for pregnant women based on financial restraints.
