*A homeless New Mexico man who was illegally camping in the Albuquerque foothills was fatally shot by police. New helmet camera video released by the Albuquerque Police Department on Friday shows the moment 38-year-old James Boyd turns his back to officers and then gets shot dead. Despite overwhelming criticism to the shooting, the department says its officers were justified, KRQE reported. Boyd was shot on Sunday, March 16. Police Chief Gorden Eden said officers approached Boyd, who was sleeping, to speak to him about illegally camping in an open space, according to the Albuquerque Journal…* Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur breaks it down on The Young Turks.

  1. This is just the most OBSCENE thing I have EVER seen. Just like the broadcasters said, I could understand if he was in close proximity to the officers and had a knife, but for him to be that far away, far enough for the cops to shoot him with a rifle, it’s just insane to me. The ABQPD needs to learn escalation of force in my opinion. There is no way that their lives “felt threatened”, which is the ONLY reason or case that you should even be pointing a gun at someone, let alone pull the trigger. If this video was shown and it were two regular citizens, the person with the gun would be going to jail for first degree murder because there is no justifiable cause for anyone to be dead in this case.
