Raymond McGovern was an active CIA office for 27 years and is now a vocal activist against the agency’s abuses against people’s civil liberties. He gave back an award, the Intelligence Commendation Medal, in protest of “enhanced interrogation techniques,” aka torture, employed by the CIA. As an intelligence activist, he has criticized use of intelligence in the war in Iraq, and is now speaking in support of whistleblowers like Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden.
What is the purpose of Central Intelligence? Was intelligence merely “misunderstood” as many media outlets may say, or was it badly misused, and how do? What is the truth about Edward Snowden? Where does President Obama stand in terms of progressivism, security, and the atrocities the public now knows about due to whistle-blowing? What happened to the Fourth Estate?
Cenk Uygur speaks to Raymond McGovern all about what his experience in the C.I.A. has taught him about intelligence, suppression, whistle-blowing, media, talking points, and war.
