Google bought Nest Labs – the makers of a smart home thermostat for $3.2 billion. Nest thermostats are notable for allowing remote settings and away settings so users can efficiently use their heating and air conditioning units. Nest is a much-loved Silicon Valley hardware startup with leadership by former Apple executives. But does that explain why Google seems intent on reentering the connected-home hardware field?
