Until very recently, prison doctors in California were regularly coercing female inmates into sterilization procedures, an outrage detailed in the newly released joint TYT/Center for Investigative Reporting documentary, “Sterilized Behind Bars” (www.youtube.com/watch?v=gajfS0c-YsA).
In this segment the expert panel of criminal justice activists and scholars discusses ongoing problems with the US criminal justice system, including racial disparities in sentencing, the treatment of women in prison, the school-to-prison pipeline, the so-called War on Drugs that has condemned hundreds of thousands of young men and women (mostly of color) to lengthy prison terms, and the disparity of treatment by the criminal justice system to members of different classes.
