“Bill de Blasio strode onstage in Brooklyn on Tuesday night to give his victory speech as New York City’s mayor-elect to a song by a teenager from New Zealand, “Royals,” by Lorde. “Royals” is currently the No. 1 song in the United States on Billboard magazine’s Hot 100. It also gives catchy form to what had been a major theme of the de Blasio campaign: his “tale of two cities,” addressing the income inequality between the wealthy few and a struggling majority.”*
