LIVE from TYT on Current: Sally Ride, Jon Kyl’s middle class, and “If We Were Fox News”

Rep. Jon Kyl conveniently doesn’t believe in a ‘middle class’
Cenk tears into Rep. Jon Kyl, who now says there is no such thing as a “middle class.” (Does that mean he believes in the 99 percent?) “You wrote the law giving the upper income brackets tax breaks!” Cenk says. “They’re redistributing wealth up to the very top but they don’t want you to know it.”

Sally Ride’s sister: Romney and other politicians ‘can’t have it both ways,’ praising Ride while denying gay partner’s benefits
Cenk pays tribute to Sally Ride, the first American astronaut in space, who died of cancer on Monday. Only after her death was Ride’s 27-year relationship with a woman acknowledged publicly, prompting questions about the federal benefits that because of the Defense of Marriage Act would not be extended her partner, Tam O’Shaughnessy. “It’s not surprising that a lot of people don’t know about Sally’s relationship with Tam,” Ride’s sister, Bear Ride, tells Cenk. “They’re domestic partners in the state of California. Sally and Tam were in something of a privileged position. They had the resources to hire attorneys and do all the stuff that one would not normally have to do if one was heterosexually married… I could not agree with your position more about this horrible discriminatory situation… I loved your comment about Romney [praising Sally Ride]. That’s just something that the politicians really need to meditate on. They can’t have it both ways.”

If we were Fox, this old Romney clip could easily sound like he’s slamming Olympians
Every day the staff of “The Young Turks” watch far too much Fox News, which led us to realize just how easy it would be to take Mitt Romney out of context — just as the Romney campaign has been doing with President Obama’s “you didn’t build that” comment. We’ve got Romney on tape saying, “You Olympians, however, know that you didn’t get here solely on your own power.” Then he added, “For most of you, loving parents, sisters or brothers encouraged your hopes…” Funny how easy it is to leave that last part out. Too bad we’re not really plagued with Fox News’ editing ethics.
