Frank Mankiewicz lived an astonishing life, and was a great American who truly made his time matter. He could have become a Hollywood scion, but chose a life in politics, starting as a WWII soldier who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, becoming a Peace Corps Leader, and working on the Robert F. Kennedy campaign, which culminated in his historic announcement that the senator had been killed by a gunman. Mankiewicz joined the improbable campaign of George McGovern, winning the primary in districts no one expected the campaign to win. Later on, Mankiewicz became the head of NPR, building the largely-unknown outlet into the important news agency it is today. Frank had the great distinction of being near the top of Nixon’s “Enemies List.” and became a prolific public relations manager and writer.

Frank Mankiewicz was the father of The Young Turks co-founder, Ben Mankiewicz. He was and remains a source of inspiration to us, and we strive to continue on in his courageous spirit.
