Meet the Goliath birdeater (Theraphosa blondi), a “puppy-sized” spider that lives up to its name, and then some. Harvard entomologist Piotr Naskrecki was walking through a Guyana rainforest at night when he found a particularly large Goliath birdeater, and took a photo. It also has a “cute” behavior that may actually temporarily blind you. Is it the scariest animal in nature though? Maybe, maybe not… Kim Horcher, Tim Frisch, and Andy Riesmeyer discuss.
