What causes religious violence and terrorism? Is it purely about ideas? Ideology? Theology? ISIS certainly seems to show that that’s the case. But what about in other recent historical examples of widespread seemingly religiously motivated violence, like the Holocaust? Could it be that economics has a bigger part to play? I think the abuse and the political-economical conditions matter to a degree as well.
Dehumanize people and you get murderous machines. It matters how we raise kids.
Not to be a jerk, but how is this not obvious? Look at central and south american countries. Many are impoverished, and have become breeding grounds, for extreme cartels. Just like religion isn’t a factor there, it’s not the primary factor, in the ME. Actually, religion probably has been used as a scapegoat for a pretext, more than for an actual cause. Most of the deadliest wars though, had little to nothing to do with religion. And even the ones that did, other economic factors were always present.
Also, Hitler may have felt ordained, but his motivation, was far from religious. He clearly speaks and writes of much of what you mentioned, about the unfair sanctions. He came to have issue with the jews. By “jews”, he meant a small number of the german pop, had disproportionate amounts of shares and control; in banks, the media, and in the political and judiciary system. I’m not an anti-semite, but I’ll be damned if we’re not facing the same issues….small groups….have mos of the power.
is it happening in the US; christians again? manifesting as police killing brown people. but the right wing kooks are right on the cusp with high-level politicians calling for treason. their republican state seeks to have an approximate 47 percent slaves with help from voter suppression and have a dupe population with satisfactory jobs to carry on votes for the republicans and maintain a revolution free society with CHRISTIANS AND SLAVES. thats “taking their country back”
