It’s great to travel to other countries, but different cultures handle tipping slightly differently. Double-check your bill to make sure you don’t unwittingly tip your waiter twice.
Even at home, many restaurants add an automatic gratuity to the bill, so look out for it beforeyou add a little extra for good service—it may already have been done for you. This is just one of the travel tips Wise Bread offers to anyone heading abroad on vacation:
In most places servers are paid proper hourly wages, and tips are nice but not expected. And even if it’s expected it’s not 18% plus. Research tipping etiquette before you travel.
Also beware of automatic gratuity being added to your bill. Before you chuck on an extra tip, read the fine print to ensure you’re not double-tipping.
