Whenever he prepares his infamous Atomic Kick Ass Drumsticks, chef Muhammad Karim wears a gas mask — the chicken dish is so spicy that it could, in his words, cause “facial paralysis.”
The director and executive chef of a Bindi restaurant in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, Karim has given his coworkers first-aid training in case any customers suffer detrimental effects of eating this insanely spicy meal.
This makes sense, considering the meal’s Scoville heat measurement scale score is almost three times higher than pepper spray used by police officers. To give you a baseline, a jalapeño pepper scores 2,500 — 5,000 and common pepper spray scores 2,000,000.
This chicken dish includes two of the spiciest chillies in the world, one of them being the Carolina Reaper, which hits a whopping 1,569,300 on the Scoville scale.
So, what happens when you eat this crazy meal? Karim explains,
The body gets this massive rush, which can paralyze their face for up to 30 minutes and give them body shakes. The last guy who tried it was sweating all over. He was slapping his face to try and feel anything, but it was paralyzed. It is the adrenaline, and the body trying to sort itself out.
The restaurant challenges customers to eat 10 drumsticks in 15 minutes and promises a prize of £100 (about $168) to those who are successful. Only 20 people have accepted this challenge.
Before somebody dies from eating this and the wings get banned, more people need to do this challenge. Who’s in?
