In this episode of TYT’s “At the Bar,” sponsored by Live Oak Bank (http://www.liveoakbank.com), Cenk Uygur assumes barback duties to talk Game Of Thrones with “patrons” John Iadarola (host of TYTUniversity) and Samantha Schacher (host of Pop Trigger).

Topics discussed include:
– Whether the Game Of Thrones reality of scheming, avarice and injustice reflects the truth of our society as well.
– If tough economic times have caused people to relate to the show’s pessimistic attitude.
– Whether the world is actually getting less violent and becoming a better place to live.
– If viewers prefer Disney-style happy endings of the past or the unpredictable and unsatisfying depravity of Game of Thrones.
– The dramatic changes that have come over television in the past 20 years.

  1. Neech?! Oh Johny Pie, you sweet summer child, what do you know of Neech? For the record, it’s pronounced nee-chae.

I generally enjoy Cenk’s take on Game of Thrones, but it gets a little irritating how often he forgets that the best thing about the damn show is the source material. It’s insane to suggest that the recent developments in the world affected how GOT was written, because it was essentially written 15-20 years ago.

Yes, the show is deviating from the books more and more, but it’s 99% in the little annoying things. It was never their choice whether or not to kill Oberyn Martell, or Tyrion Lannister, or any other major character. Their little deviations are usually the worst part of each episode, and I say that with all the objectivity I can muster.
