George R.R. Martin revealed to Conan O’Brien recently that his writing environment is a little different than most. To write his books, including the beloved A song of Ice and Fire series, he uses WordStar 4.0 on a DOS machine. Wordstar was released in the late 1970s and was popular in the 1980s. This unusual choice has its flaws…but also maybe some benefits? We mostly just want him to finish his next book.
