“Airpocolypse” has hit in China. A thick layer of smog has enveloped the Chinese city of Harbin, prompting local officials to close schools, cancel flights and take cars off the highways. Watch footage of the “airpocolypse” in the video.

Harbin reported an air quality index score of 500 two days in a row, the highest possible reading offered in China. To put this in perspective, New York City had a reading of less than 50 on the same day. (The U.S. government categorizes any score over 300 as “hazardous.”)
