As the protests in Baltimore continue there is a word that we keep hearing brought up, not just by conservatives by liberals as well, and that word is “thug”. What group the word thug gets applied to depends on who’s telling the story. From the media all the way up to President Obama, use of the word “thug” is wide spread. “Erin Burnett really tried, bless her heart, to imagine a reason why it might be inappropriate to refer to protesting black Baltimore teenagers as thugs.
The CNN host was interviewing Baltimore city councilman Carl Stokes when she defended Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s categorization of the teens as criminals and thugs—asking Stokes why it wasn’t “the right word?”
Well for one thing they’re kids, Stokes points out.
“But how does that justify what they did? I mean that’s a sense of right and wrong. They know it’s wrong to steal and burn down a CVS and an old person’s home, I mean, come on,” Burnett clarifies, uncomprehending.
“Come on? So calling them thugs? Just call them niggers. Just call them niggers,” Stokes replies. “No. We don’t have to call them by names such as that. We don’t have to do that.”
Burnett, to be fair, later promises she “would hope that [she] would call [her] son a thug if he did such a thing.”*

Racists are really ready to fight for their new word for n*gger. They’ve been so upset that they can’t say their favorite word in public, and now they’ve subtly pushed this one up the ranks, careful to avoid any direct video of KKK saying it. They were never satisfied with the temporary and longer phrase “the n word”, which is also just another way to get to say n*gger. Now they have their “thug” word and they won’t let it go.
People who work all day do not have time to worry that you hear dog-whistles when the word THUG is quite appropriately applied to a bunch of lazy criminals. Sounds like the THUG doth protest too much, so to speak !!
