Victoria’s Secret watched as viewers seemed to love the brand’s first swimsuit special.
The Victoria’s Secret Swim Special will be broadcast at 10 p.m. tonight on CBS, locally on WBNS-TV (Channel 10). The new special follows 11 of the brand’s “Angels” as they land in Puerto Rico to shoot photos for the chain’s swimwear selection.
The company is hinting there could be more such shows, depending on the response.
“We’ll hold off on telling you if we’re doing any more television,” said Sharen Jester Turney, president and CEO of the brand during a fourth-quarter conference call with analysts today. “We’ll wait to see what happens tonight.”
In the past, the lingerie chain, owned by Columbus-based L Brands, has drawn huge audience numbers for its annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. That event has helped propel sales during the holidays.
The swimsuit special is likewise intended to propel sales of beachwear, which has been a strong category for the chain, Turney said.
“We (sell) about half a billion dollars’ worth of swim (merchandise),” she said, “and we continue to expand the swim business in the store channel. I believe we have an opportunity to come out strong and own the spring season. We know it drives new customers to Victoria’s Secret — that’s what we’re after.”
