FINDERS KEEPERS is the documentary that tells the story of a lost leg and the bizarre legal fight over ownership of it. After amputee John Wood lost his leg he had no idea it would find its way to a public auction and into the hands of Shannon Whisnant. The strange and grueling legal fight for the custody of the leg is seen with film footage and explanation from FINDERS KEEPERS filmmakers Bryan Carberry, Clay Tweel, and producer Adam Gibbs, direct from the Sundance Film Fest premiere on BYOD with Ondi Timoner.
GUEST BIO & FILM INFO:
Recovering addict and amputee John Wood finds himself in a stranger-than-fiction battle to reclaim his mummified leg from Southern entrepreneur Shannon Whisnant, who found it in a grill he bought at an auction and believes it to therefore be his rightful property.
Clay Tweel was born and raised in Virginia where he attended the University of Richmond, earning a BA in history and an extensive wardrobe of terrible polo shirts. He met Seth Gordon while working on the set of CRY WOLF and moved to Los Angeles after filming was completed. He was employed in many capacities on Seth and Ed Cunningham’s documentary THE KING OF KONG: A FISTFUL OF QUARTERS including editing, shooting and motion graphics. Clay made his directorial debut on the documentary MAKE BELIEVE, chronicling 6 teenagers battling to become the world’s best teen magician, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the LA FILM FEST in 2010 and is currently running on Showtime networks. Clay’s most recent film, PRINT THE LEGEND, premiered at SXSW 2014 and was awarded the Special Jury Recognition for Storytelling and Editing. The film was bought by Netflix Originals and was released in September 2014. He is currently attached to direct a documentary about Steve Gleason, a former NFL standout with ALS, in addition to developing a narrative feature.
Director BRYAN CARBERRY learned the finer points of documentary filmmaking with Ed Cunningham and the rest of the ‘King of Kong’ team on their film ‘Make Believe,’ Bryan’s first project after graduating from USC’s film program. The other points he picked up working in all stages of production on feature films and television shows, and while directing videos for Scott Weiland and Adriano Goldschmied.
Producer ADAM GIBBS, a graduate of the University of Southern California, recently finished production on the feature film ‘Lucky Them’ starring Toni Collette and Thomas Haden Church, and previously produced the feature film ‘Live at the Foxes Den’ with Jackson Rathbone and Elliott Gould.
