Does Gay Marriage Compromise Freedom of Religion?

An op-ed on the front page of Yahoo News caught my eye. J. Matt Barber argues that “homofascism” is taking over the country, and due to the gay “agenda,” religious freedom is under attack. Should religious small business owners be forced to serve gay customers? I make my case in the video.

  1. Ana, I think I can simplify your argument from parsing “harmful” and non harmful behavior. this way: when you move into the public market then you have made a private choice regardless of your religion to act in a particular area that has rules regarding who you can sell to and who you can legally turn away. You have freedom of religion: what you do not have is freedom of business. Businesses are regulated in a certain way and if you disagree with them the obligation is on you to move away from those businesses. Just because I have freedom of religion doesn’t mean I get to hold church out on the Interstate.

    1. So pretty sure i’ve been to a few establishments that have the sign posted saying “We Reserve The Right To Refuse Service”. Also when did Sexual Orientation become a “Race” I find it difficult to say that because so and so is gay it trumps any religious beliefs that said business owner may have and they are required to provide services.

How difficult considering this is a capitalistic society with freedom of choice and free will to the extent that you can spend your money where or however you would like for the most part for these individuals to merely take there business elsewhere.

If we dont have Freedom of Business what type of society do we live in. Is the Federal Government running all of these Businesses.

Your argument is garbage sir, what does holding church in the middle of the interstate have to do with this discussion. Clearly that’s lunacy. Such as me saying because I have Freedom of Religion and Speech i am allowed to harass every gay person because their lifestyle choice offends me. Until they adopt a lifestyle which i approve of.

I havent watched her video but i still dont see how it is harmful to be told im sorry I dont agree with your life choice so I refuse to serve you, hell its said owners loss of business. Who knows maybe they will go out of business because of such decisions to but to demand that they break their oath to whatever god they pray to merely to be “politically correct” is sheer insanity.

Hypothetically As i stated above you can liken that to me demanding that gays attend some type of rehab because I believe they are broken and merely confused not on a biological level but through some type media indoctrination or who knows maybe they had a bad experience of rejection as a child or young adult and now find it easier and maybe even as some type of strange social support group to be gay. Obviously i don’t believe any of this but i am trying to prove a point that even I can pull some idiotic ethical argument which distracts from the entire point at hand such as

“Just because I have Freedom of Religion doesn’t mean I get to hold Church out on the Interstate.” –False equivalence – describing a situation of logical and apparent equivalence, when in fact there is none

In fact i believe the mainstay of your argument falls under this due to that last statement of yours, i may be mistaken in attempting identify the fault of your argument but i’ve drank quite a bit since reading an ethics book.

      1. Also to the statement makes about who would choose be gay when it brings so many negative stigmatas with it,

I would argue what would you say to all the Christians , Yazadis , Alawites and other religious groups which are clearly a minority in several large predominately Muslim countries? Clearly they’ve chosen a Religion which brings down alot of pain in their everyday lives i imagine. Just from what im gleamed from random news articles that is. Hate to say I was becoming a fan of yall individuals especially from all the interesting youtube clips yall have. But just from this little rant im a bit iffy now

  2. Ana doesn’t cruise the conservosphere often, I can tell if she doesn’t recognize terms like “homofascism”.

  3. If J. Matt Barber thinks his BS will fly then my faith that believes that idiots should be hounded to the ends of the Earth will be applied to him and others like him. Freedom!
