The Pittsburgh police chief was criticized for holding an anti-racism sign in a photo taken on New Year’s Eve at the city’s annual First Night celebration. The sign, given to Chief Cameron McLay by What’s Up?! Pittsburgh activists, reads “I resolve to challenge racism @ work” followed by a Twitter hash tag that says “# end white silence.”
Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto supported the gesture posting it on his own Facebook page while Fraternal Order of Police president Howard McQuillan criticized the sign saying that it painted city police as racists. We take a look at the chief’s actions and discuss the ensuing response, in this Lip News clip with Mark Sovel and Jason Venzor.
