Unfortunately, Canada also has similar problems where dentist and optometrist appointments are largely not covered by ‘universal’ healthcare. Employers are similarly incentivized to ‘early retire’ older people to cut down on insurance costs here.
We don’t cover dental or drug costs here in Canada either, and the insurance for those things is tied to employment. We have it better sure, but we’ve also got homeless people who can’t afford to fix their teeth or get their medication. Might be a good step, but it feels weird being held up as an example knowing there are definitely better ways to do things than ours.
I think we only look to Canada so frequently because you are our neighbor. Americans find it easier to relate to Canadians than to Europeans because you’re just across the border.
During the town hall, both the Canadian and Norwegian doctors made it very clear that neither of their systems are perfect, and must be improved upon, but that they are far superior to the trash healthcare we have in the US.
Wondering also what happened to Nina
Where is Nina Turner??
Cenk, I watched your TYT Interview with George Halvorson former CEO of Kaiser Permanente in May three times. In that interview, you asked him about a Medicare For All system and he said that there would need to be better data and integration (like Kaiser & other Medicare HMOs) so care can be managed. I’m wondering how that interview informs the Medicare For All debate/message going forward. Your thoughts?
