Thanks was looking for that
I normally don’t listen when Cenk is hosting alone. He never says anything new or different. Whatever the news, he plays the same songs like a broken record. I thought after months, I’d try again. Nope. This entire hour could be any solo Cenk hour in any week of the last 2 years.
I prefer watching when Cenk is hosting alone or only with Jimmy Dore. Guess to each his own.
I’m with you, I like the fire Cenk brings to the show.
Cenk,
“Do the Russians support Trump?” is a very different question from “did the Russians hack/rig the election?”. The trick that the MSM are trying to pull is to conclude that the answer to the latter must be the same as the answer to the former. Don’t go down that same path. We’re here on TYT because we don’t believe MSNBC.
Cenk has been extremely clear about his stance with Russia and Trump and that he doesn’t believe the same things the corporate media does, rather that it’s about money. If anyone is being influenced by the corporate media it’s people like ‘you’.
The media says if you believe a you must believe b. Cenk says that actually believes a is related to c or d. Because you hate the corporate media so much though you won’t even acknowledge that people are talking about c or d and instead lump them in with people talking about b.
This obsession with all or nothing with Russia from folks like Jimmy, Kyle (from secular talk), and people like you is exactly the same as what you are complaining about but from the other side. You guys AND the corporate media have made it a black or white issue when Cenk, Ana, John, and people like me are like but what about all this grey?
Cenk is not now and has never said it’s as simple as what the corporate media and Hillary warriors think, he’s been clear about believing they are barking up the wrong tree. Maybe it’s time for ‘you’ to stop being taken in by the likes of MSNBC. Just a thought
Maybe if you lump in Kyle (from secular talk) with people “obsessed with all or nothing with Russia” without answering his actual concerns, let alone explain where you think the difference exactly is between Cenk’s (financial dealings) and Kyle’s (corruption) position , maybe you shouldn’t criticize others for a lack of nuance / a nuanced position?
Whether it’s you, Cenk or John, calling everyone who has any questions left on the Russia story or has a nuanced position “deniers” or trolls is not a nuanced position. For example people, like Kyle, say “there is no evidence for Russian hacking into voting machines or actual proof of them / open questions about the hacking (of) the DNC servers” and Cenk translates their words into them saying “there is no evidence at all of any Russian activity ever in the United States” then he calls them stupid for holding that position while at the same time repeating their actual position to prove how nuanced he is :-)
Just a shot in the Arm to fire up everybody even more:

Trump’s Willie Horton ad:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Io9KMSSEZ0Y
A brilliant move on his part. Dukakis was leading until this ad and even though he pointed to a similar incident that happened on Reagan’s watch it still did not matter.
If the dems want to keep on fighting this battle for DACA then expect more and expect the public turning against them (they are already doing so, the generic ballot for Congress saw the republicans gain 3 points and a 10 point swing to Trump among independents was also recorded) because the people will only see one thing in this fight (no matter how much untruth is in it):
Rich white coastal elites fighting for illegal immigrants who commit crime while the heartlands are suffering.
The Dems won on CHiP and can extract more on trade and Healthcare (especially the opioid epidemic fudning)spending on Feb 8th, they should stop fighting for DACA and fight for these because DACA receipients don;t vote, people affected by the opioid epidemic do.
“Rich white coastal elites fighting for illegal immigrants who commit crime while the heartlands are suffering”
But aren’t most immigrants themselves living in more blue areas? How are people in the heartland suffering from crimes that immigrants commit in NYC or Chicago? As in the UK with Brexit, Trump voters overall are actually much more likely to live in districts with little or no immigration at all (they don’t even ever meet one), hard to imagine they’re suffering from it..?
It doesn’t matter.
Elections are won and lost in purple states (many of which share borders and media markets with blue states) not blue states, even if all the hispanics and white men in California sat out the elections the white women vote alone would have easily won the Dems that state in 2016.
Purple states are white and are afraid and fear reigns supreme, fear knows no borders and if you run ads like this with edited audio like this the only message people will hear is: “Those illegals are here to kill us”
Fear is why 70% of Americans and 50% of Britons were cajoled into supporting the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
Fear of immigrants is the common denominator among all Trump supporters regardless of geographic area and it is why he still enjoys 86% approval among republicans, higher than Obama at the same stage of his first term.
So, if DACA people were made citizens with voting rights by Democrats, they wouldn’t vote more for democrats? That’s some pretty silly logic to base the destruction of millions of families on.
It will be years before the 800k Dreamers get citizenship and when they do their effect will be small since they are merely 0.25% of the population.
The real here issue is perceptions. The Natives look at the situation from their own interests not that of the Dreamers because let us be honest, the crushing majority of people when given a choice between themselves and the dreamers they will chose themselves.
A very very tiny minority will go to the polls in November, mostly in already blue states and in blue districts of red states, with DACA in mind. The rest will go with Jobs, the opioid epidemic, Healthcare, infrastructure etc. on their mind. That majority when they see the drama they will see the opposition fighting for foreigners who came here illegally not for people who are victimless in all this and that will affect their vote.
This unfortunately is the world we live in.
The Democrats are limp Republican light. They are mostly controlled by the same corporate bosses as the Republicans. Don’t expect to hear anything different from them. Vote for the people running as Justice Democrats.
Oil and gas investments are tax deductible directly applied against AGI. 75% to 85% of the invested amount is deductible.
Berry Noice, thank you for the Rather link. Hopefully TYT will take your advice to provide access on the website.

The productivity vs compensation graphic that you guys threw up to talk about inequality is taken directly from Wikipedia, but you guys cropped out a very important part of that graph (cropped out of the top of it) that says exactly what happened in 1973 that caused this problem in the first place. It was the Nixon Shock, America breaking with international monetary policy and going completely off the gold standard to become free-floating fiat currency. That’s what started it all.
Abandoning the gold standard had little to do with productivity.
Automation on the other hand is responsible for almost all the productivity gain in the graph. The first robotic production line in the US was in 1974 and by 1978 with tax breaks, proliferation of CAM and CAD systems and great reduction in unit costs the robotics boom began ( zenith between 1980-1990).
The way that we currently measure productivity is outdated and highly disputed by even leftist economists because it does not take into account automation and other variables (the current way is roughly to divide the gross dollar value output over the number of hours worked):
https://hbr.org/2015/09/what-economists-get-wrong-about-measuring-productivity
I suggest you read this then: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bretton_Woods_system
There are many factors that contribute to the stagnation of wages vs the massive increase in productivity, however the start of it was the abandoning of the gold standard. You’re not wrong with your other points, however the drastic change to our economic policy starting with ending the Bretton Woods agreement was the beginning, which is why economists point to 1973 as the start.
I know about the Bretton-Woods system, it was installed because in 1944 thanks to the small event called WWII, the US ended up with all the gold reserves in the world either physically or on paper. The US economy was 52% of the world GDP at the time and there was no way that anyone would be able to trade with the US or pay back their debts to it. The regime of fixed exchange rates with a small floating window was the only way to rebalance the world economy.
Forward to 1968, the US ran out of gold reserves because back then gold in physical form was shipped from one country to the other when there is a current account deficit between the two because cash=gold. The US ran huge deficits and simply ran out of gold. In 1968 the US tried to delay the inevitable and impose controls but those failed and European countries started to send Navy Ships to escort the ships carrying gold from NY harbor. By 1971 the US reached the point of no return and it had to float the currency, something several countries including the US have done before in WWI, WWII and in the 30s.
Going back to the gold standard would be an unmitigated disaster and won’t help wages or productivity.
I’m pretty dumb when it comes to economics so can you or someone explain how that change has anything to do with stagnation in wages?
If you do not know how something works it does not mean you are dumb. It means you are ignorant which is not a bad thing. No human can have all the knowledge in the world, not even me ?.
Anyway, the stagnation in wages is universal, all 1st world economies in the world since the 70s experienced the same level of wage stagnation not just the US. The immediate reason is simple enough to understand, supply and demand.
In the early 80s cheap Chinese labor began producing cheap goods like textiles at a fraction of the price they are made in in the US and no matter how much tariffs were imposed Chinese Jeans were still a fraction of American made Jeans.
So American textile factories in New England closed shop and the 45 year old worker making $40k in 1985 was 48 years old and making $0k in 1988 and had a mortgage and kids ready to go to college and new kids just fresh out of college and/or highschool ready to work for half his wage in 1985 with little expense on them since they are single and ready to mingle (from Friends).
Our worker above had two choices, starve on the curb after having his house foreclosed on or take a new job requiring new skills and paying $30k. This worker is the lucky worker since in the 80s the average unemployment rate was 8% and there were a lot of workers to chose from and the employer had the upper hand in negotiations not the worker. This depressed wages or made them relatively static.
Then came the 90s with NAFTA and more automation and then came the 2000s with China joining the World Trade Organization (which made most tariffs mentioned above illegal or at very low rates), yet more automation and of course the Great Recession.
The above is the simple explanation but it only accounts for about half the wage stagnation. The more complex reason centers around the shift in the modes of production and the structure of the economy.
Between 1820 and 1870 the British economy experienced the 2nd industrial revolution, in that revolution the modes of production went from small workshop factories to large industrial complexes with dedicated production lines and the economic structure went from an agricultural economy to an Industrial economy.
During that 50 year period wages actually fell in real terms.
In the 20th and 21st century the US economy went from an Industrial economy to a service based economy and that change leads to stagnant wages.
Why does TYT hype a show then don’t give access to it on their website? I can’t watch live so I have to track it down on Facebook(ugh fuck facebook) or YouTube? You guys knew this new show was coming but nothing on the website, it’s super frustrating as a paying member. Please think about these things in the future. Thank you
More right than wrong, perhaps. I’m pretty sure Russia is a trend we won’t be rid of by simply establishing collusion and such. People support Russia just to troll their fellow Americans, facts will not suffice. Smelling your own farts, one might think”hey, it’s not that funky” but that’s a feature of human psychology. We want to convince people that what we are is sufferable, even if our realities have proven otherwise. You could sell a fake bridge to anyone desperate enough to believe that something will come from nothing. Self sufficiency is essential, less one never means to hold any true solutions. #NoLuck!
I got to say, why would we want to be hostile to Russia if it can be avoided? They are second to the U.S. as far as nuclear weapon goes. I am a liberal and want peace for humanity, not just America. I agree that Russia influenced the election (as minor as it may have been ) and this is wrong, and punish them by maybe sanctions that hurt their economy. Let’s not pretend that the U.S. hasn’t also influenced the Ukrainian election, and this isn’t the first time other countries have done this as well. The truth is, Russia’s influence was not the reason why Trump was elected.
If we could work with Russia as an ally as far as foreign policy goes, then work towards a better relationship with Russia, I don’t think that would be a bad thing. But what is the ultimate alternative. If the tensions don’t die down with Russia, nuclear war would be inevitable.
God Damn Cenk!!! Thanks. The Left must stop being the abused party. Fair is not bringing a Knife to a Gun fight. Fair is brining the best guns with the best shooters to the Gun fight. (Philosophically speaking). The point is fair is fair.
Cenk, Thank you for calling out the Right. We have given them to much credit & power. We must force them to come to the table honestly!!*
Cenk, you fell for it again.
First it was the Facebook ads that Russia bought to influence the election. Scandal!! Then we find out that they could only trace $100K in ad spending to Russia, that 75% of the ads appeared AFTER the election, and the ads were all targeted at deeply red states and nit the states that Hillary barely lost in.
Now we have this “Russian bot” nonsense. Firstly, they have only identified 600 accounts that they think are Russian. That’s 600 out of 175,000,000 Twitter accounts, or 0.000003% of the Twitter-verse. And what’s more, those 600 accounts used the hashtag only 800 times over the course of 48 hours???? How the hell is that supposed to make any difference at all?
Secondly, I would be VERY suspicious of any organisation with a name like “Alliance for Securing Democracy”, which is a shadowy organisation that just launched in July 2017
Here is the “Alliance for Securing Democracy” Advisory Council:
MIKE CHERTOFF | TOOMAS HENDRIK ILVES | DAVID KRAMER | WILLIAM KRISTOL | MICHAEL MORELL | MICHAEL MCFAUL | MIKE ROGERS | KORI SCHAKE | JULIE SMITH | ADMIRAL JAMES STAVRIDIS | JAKE SULLIVAN | NICOLE WONG
Colour me sceptical – but I am leery of anything that is run by Michael Chertoff, Bill Kristol, Mike Morell and those other neocons.
Cenk, seriously, how can you accept something at face value when it comes from these jokers?
Oh, and just to put the icing on this turd cake – the Alliance for Securing Democracy’s Director of Operations is one Laura Rosenberger.
Before she joined ASD, Rosenberger was foreign policy advisor for Hillary for America, where she coordinated development of the campaign’s national security policies, messaging, and strategy.
Hmmmm. Think she has a vested interest in blaming Russia?
Sheesh. If you believe this alarmist, xenophobic, militaristic, Neocon propaganda you need to get your head examined.
Thanks Euroyankee, for the information. Yes, Cenk definitely has his weak spots. This is one of them.
“Alliance for Securing Democracy” wins the Orwellian Award of the Year. And… What a Rogue’s Gallery!
It seems that the conclusion of the article you link is “inconclusive”. There might be a reasonable explanation, but we can’t confirm.
This story wouldn’t mean anything on its own, of course. But I still think it’s worth keeping in mind, given that Trump has been linked to Russian money laundering.
And weren’t there also a lot of requests from the DeVos family to that server? Alfa Bank and the DeVos’s were the only two requesters to that server. The article doesn’t mention that, and I’m curious to know if the same thing happened there.
Where can I see Dan Rather’s show on the website?
How was the determination made that the #SchumerShutdown hashtag was promoted by Russian bots? The IP address(es) of the bots / twitter clients? If this is the article – https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/government-shutdown-russia-twitter-trump_us_5a654795e4b0dc592a0a06c8 – it does not appear to provide such details. But if that is the case, and it does seem likely as using IP addresses is a common way to pinpoint the source of internet activity, I hope you all realize how easy it is to for a hacker from anywhere in the world to establish a VPN tunnel to somewhere in Russia so that the source of the internet traffic appears to be originating from Russia, hiding the actual origin of the bot(s). AKA an “Anonymizer” – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anonymizer
In fact, let’s look at this from another angle. Now that you know that a tool like this exists and what they’re capable of, if Russian bots / hackers are really behind this, you think they wouldn’t use the tools within a hacker’s toolkit, such as an Anonymizer, to hide the original source of the internet traffic and make it look like the internet traffic was originating from somewhere else in the world? If not, Putin better find himself some smarter hackers.
If it was this easy for someone a little tech savvy like myself to poke a hole in the story, I have my doubts about the story’s credibility.
Hadn’t the Trump/Alfa Bank connection (“server in Pennsylvania”) already been debunked like 14 months ago..?
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/11/01/that-secret-trump-russia-email-server-link-is-likely-neither-secret-nor-a-trump-russia-link/?utm_term=.0d7ca91906e8
Imus pffffft he’s been irrelevant since Stern destroyed him in the mid 80s.
Cenk, are the progressives that are saying that there is no evidence that Russia is supporting Trump online? If so, they are probably Russian bots/trolls.
Yes those quick uploads – awesome. Thank you!
As always, great efing show Cenk. I wish you would tell people that we must vote out these Dem and GOPmembers who caved o that orange thing. Do what they do “repetition for effect”…. Post their names on line so those progressives in those states know who to vote out in Nov… I know you talk about them dem cowards alot, but maybe you should run a ticker at the bottom when you do those stories and show their names so those who see it will remember who we need to vote out in Nov. We have to flip both houses in Nov so we can overturn his destructive racist policies. Maybe tell us that “If we want to over turn his policies, we need to vote them out in Nov.”… He is going to destroy this great country i we don’t stand up and change it. If I didn’t know better I would swear that Putin turned him into a russian spy in order to destroy this great nation. Years from now, those who stood with him will be sorry they ever did, for they will suffer with the rest of us. I have a Pres supporter who works with me and he has been die hard with him, he over drafted on his account because the bank did the old fees scam on him. I told him to thank his pres. I then told him about the fool he put in CFPB and what he is doing to destroy it. I could see that registered with him. That is what I mean they will regret their bowing o the “fearless leader”… Stand up America, open those eyes before its to late. Nov is our chance to check him for the rest of his term.
Brilliant idea to bring Dan Rather into the fold. I read the trolls on twitter- IGNORE.
Serious questions: I think it’s safe assumption that #MAGA people are former TEA Party or TP sympathizers. Taxes= tyranny. Can someone tell me how they are not RIOTING about the biggest lie ever told: Building the Wall & Mexico will pay for it. T is asking for $30B from tax payers. (not the mention the recent tax “reform” bill)
Cenk highlighted the ONDP is slashing the budget 95%- not only did Trump appoint Kellyanne Conjob as “Drug Czar” but the 24 y/o fraud as deputy. Literally 91 Americans die EVERY DAY from overdose. EVERY DAY. This stat surpasses car crashes and gun violence victims. #MAGA voters in coal country are dying in astounding numbers. Read “Dreamland” By Sam Quinones
WHY DO THE #MAGA people- the MOST harmed by T’s viciousness and lies continue to support him? I just don’t get it.
Thank you very much for the quick upload TYT!
They can come search my basement if they want to. I am one of those second amendment supporting liberals.
Cenk continues to make the ignorant comment that coal is not cleaned. As I noted in a previous comment a few days ago, as part of coal preparation prior to shipping to the buyer, the coal is washed and other procedures are done to remove much of the noncombustible fraction and pyrites (sulfur). View the Wikipedia page under “Coal Preparation Plant”. Quoting from that article: “A coal preparation plant (CPP; also known as a … wash plant) is a facility that washes coal of soil and rock, …” The phrase “clean coal” originally was used to signify removal of pyrites to reduce smokestack sulfur dioxide which lead to acid rain. This was done by a density separation where a dense liquid was used to float the coal chunks (specific gravity = 2.0) while rock fragments and heavier minerals would sink. Only later was the meaning of “Clean coal” modified to mean carbon dioxide sequestration when global warming became an issue.
Trump is still a fool, but stop making ignorant jokes about washing coal. You have generally decent political analyses, but your scientific knowledge is abysmal. At least check on simple stuff like this. Your stupid comments about washing coal leave you open to criticism to discredit your entire commentary. Why undercut yourself over trivia. You need to get someone with some basic scientific background to vet some of your stories to avoid such ignorant mistakes. Yes, most people won’t know what coal washing is, but those who work or live in the coal fields certainly do and right-wing commentators will also dredge it up to discredit you.
#tidepodchallenge
Coal wash does not equal clean coal when the discussion is about atmospheric carbon levels. Claiming otherwise is either ignorance or an attempt to deceive. While I am sure Trump’s advisers are the latter, I have no faith that Trump does not understand the difference. Hence I believe the derision is appropriate.
eh ment to say “… no faith trump *understands* the difference.”
But Cenk says “he thinks clean coal means washing the coal” and then loves his ass off :-)
But “clean coal” is deceit in the first place, so Trump “not knowing what clean coal is” is actually a good thing. If I’d debate Cenk f.e. I’d ask him what he thinks clean coal is. Ever since Trump got elected getting a joke in, especially one that kind of makes Trump look like an idiot or tries to “get under his skin”, humiliates him etc or his (alt-right) supporters seems to justify any and all inaccuracy or even breach of principles :-)
Even though I get that it’s supposed to be funny, it’s just annoying as hell to me (it definitely DOES NOT “feel good”), but OK – to each their own, I guess…
Long time watcher. First time as a subscriber. SOOOOO worth it!
Dan Rather was nothing short of inspirational. What a legend. I feel so honored that he has partnered with TYT. So proud of you guys.
RATHER ON THE POWER PANEL!
Dam wont play. Is Verizon throttling us already?
I can’t watch tyt live. Will members get to see Dan rathers show on demand ?
where is this debate between cenk, michael, and nomiki?? Id love to watch it if theres a video of it
BAM!!! Dan Rather–what a great day! damn it’s good to hear/see you again, and indie on tyt… just awesome. for me, one of the finest journalists in my life of 63 yrs.
Welcome on board the Too Strong train, Dan!
:))))))))))
I want to see Dan Rather on a power panel with our favorite Young Turks!
Dan Rather hosted the CBS Even news for many years taking over from Walter Cronkite when he retired.
I love Dan Rather. I wrote him a parking ticket when I was in the Military as a joke. He had a great sense of humor about it. The commanding General didn’t think it was as funny though. lol
Cenk and Jimmy disagree on Russia. Cenk, Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes, Anderson Cooper and the all the corporate media love the Russia propaganda.. (It’s good for ratings.)
Jimmy goes by evidence and he’s (as usual) right. Debate? Have at it Hoss! (Poor Cenk)
You’re partly correct. Jimmy and Cenk agree that there was no Russian collusion. Cenk has stated that he feels Trump and his family and some of the people in his administration are guilty of money laundering for the Russians and Jimmy just doesn’t want to admit it. His excuse is that “Why is the investigation taking so long?” Well, in real life, investigations take a long time and especially when it involves a sitting President. And if you think they cover Trump because of “ratings” on TYT, then you obviously haven’t seen the massive complaints TYT audience members always send to the hosts. And to Cenk’s and Ana’s credit, they’ve read those complaints on the show but Trump is the President. He’s going to be talked about everyday, even if he wasn’t such a moron.
I mainly agree, but can you really deny that Cenk has some kind of “forbidden pleasure” fascination with Trump that goes beyond what is necessary to report? I mean even John said their reporting on Trump is most likely not proportionate. Obama was president too, yet I don’t remember getting an Obama segment every day, let alone a full Obama show, every second day… :-)
Is TYT going to add their Dan Rather segments on TYT Network?
Calm down Cenk, the Koch brothers were just talking to Paul Ryan! I can’t believe you want to infringe their free speech by not allowing them to pay $500,000 to a politician who gives him billions in return!
There is a decent chance that Trump chose that kid because he see’s himself in him. A lazy child who could never accomplish anything.
For real?
I don’t understand how wonderful progressives such as Kyle Kulinski (Secular Talk) can believe that Russiagate is bullshit. I love them, but I genuinely don’t understand how they can deny so much evidence.
Are you listening to Secular Talk on a regular basis? I actually think that Kyle has a rather nuanced/moderate approach to the whole issue. I’m not even sure if Cenk and Kyle “officially” disagree – they both emphasize the financial dealings. Personally I like Kyle’s tone better tho, he comes across as more nuanced and fact based. Cenk often goes over the top, gets angry, has a tendency to answer straw men instead of the actual arguments and just seems to be more superficial.
For example, the Washington Post, not necessarily a Putin defender or enemy of the Democratic Party establishment, debunked the Alfa Bank / Trump connection via server in Pennsylvania on November 1, 2016 – more than 14(!) months ago – yet Cenk brings it up over and over again.
And he doesn’t ask questions or answers them, that are still open. You could f.e. ask if those bots are from someone in Russia or if they’re definitely linked to the Russian government – remember that the alt-right movement itself has Russia ties, with or without Trump. Doesn’t mean Putin is innocent, it’s just a deeper way at analyzing things. Also I don’t think it’s fair to bring up Eric Trump’s talk about Russian money in golf courses, because that had nothing to do with politics, in fact that was I think 7 years ago. To say that he’s an idiot for that is a little bit unfair, given that at the time Russian oligarchs invested a lot of money in a lot of western property. FC Chelsea one of the major soccer clubs in London is owned by an oligarch, Arsenal London has a 30% shareholder and last but not least the owner of the Nets, of course, overseeing their move from New Jersey to Brooklyn.
It’s almost like Cenk wants to keep some of the facts murky and doesn’t make bold predictions, but keeps everything vague. I hate to say it, but even though I’m 100% convinced that Trump DOES HAVE financial dealings with Russia (money laundering, corruption etc) Cenk treats the whole complex of “Russia” more like the right treated Benghazi, not like he usually treats delicate issues.
But I also think that Kyle is angry at people who talk about Russia like it was on a totally different level than any other allegations against Trump, including financial dealings with Saudi-Arabia that quite frankly seem to set the Middle-East on fire right now, corruption with the Chinese government etc. Last but not least, I think the main source of disagreement is about the Republican congress. Cenk is convinced that Mueller’s report leads to Trump’s impeachment or a major political scandal. Kyle is less convinced/very skeptical and frankly, so am I. Because we haven’t seen anyone talking about Saudi-Arabia (getting $500B, 110B in weapons, blocking Qatar, killing innocent civilians in Yemen, supporting ISIS like terrorist groups, escalating with Iran etc. ) or China, even after evidence came out, so why would you expect a different reaction to a deal with Russia/Putin?
I have never heard of Dan Rather in my life (Probably because I’m 16 years old); can you guys tell me what’s so special about him?
Hi, Bernie2020,
Dan Rather was a staple for news media for many years. I remember him as a good reporter at the time, and he followed in the footsteps of journalist/newscaster Walter Cronkite; he seemed to have some integrity. He worked with CBS for years and was finally forced out due to a story he reported on back in the early Oughts – if I remember correctly, he may have been fed some fraudulent information for the story, and it was said that he hadn’t done his research (anyone else better informed on all the ins and outs of that incident?). Back then, it was shocking to think that a reporter with his stature would knowingly do such a thing. But before the scandal, he was a reassuring voice on the nightly news. (You can look up old broadcasts online.)
Over the last year, he has blogged quite openly against the actions of the Trump Administration and shown a lot of sense in those blog posts. Be sure to take a look at that online, too.
It might be a large dose of nostalgia, but he represents a time of civility and actual knowledge in newscasting that seems to be lacking right now. AND – I have to admit that I was both really surprised and kind of pleased to see that he’ll be broadcasting with TYT – and would really like to a see him on a Power Panel in the future too. With his life experience, it could be really interesting! All the best, BadgerGal
He was forced out because he ran with a story about George Bush and how he was AWOL from the Texas Air National Guard. As proof of the story he provided a letter that had been forged. The story as reported was actually true, Bush was AWOL and had just used the Sir Guard to avoid serving in the Vietnam War, and yes he was AWOL for half a year shacked up with a girlfriend in Louisiana. There was a GREAT film about this that came out in 2015, called “Truth” starring Cate Blanchett, Robert Redford, Dennis Quaid.
Thank you for the information! I’ll be sure to research him.
ON a break for hour 2.
Been a member for just a couple weeks but this is my FAVORITE 2 hour episode (Mr. Cronkite ,aside) so far. As for Mr. Cronkite…I thought it was Obama or bust….but you exceeded my expectations!
I have so much to say I can’t put it all down right now and will save much for later. What I do want to say is this:
#1: Live the Army Values.
Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage.
You all live them. These should be AMERICAN values. Resist and fight for what is moral and right. I will follow you up any hill!
#2: Abuse of power is a historic reality from the dawn of man…but SOME OF US have evolved …time to use the internet, the best of humanity, and the internet to show these 1% Neanderthals their time is don’t and we’re not going to take it anymore.
#3: Power to the women!!!! Please just remember the nice guys who have supported you our whole lives. In many ways the Beta males are just as much victims as the women.
#4: I know you joked….but in all seriousness….the Tea Party photos were always close up….the women’s movement…..WOW!!!!
#5: I have an MBA, lead men into combat, and enabled my own current relaxing living standards. My point?: Not bragging…but analogizing….My first job was at Taco Bell, my Second Cheddar’s, and my third Outback Steakhouse. What is with the hatred for hard workers?!?!
The Soprano wanna be mafioso talking wages speaks VOLUMES!!
I have a feeling I will have more to say later….for now, back to finishing the live stream and will save it for another time.
Very respectfully,
Mac
