Cenk interviews Paula Jean Swearengin, who is running against incumbent U.S. Senator Joe Manchin in the 2018 Democratic primary, and Adrienne Bell, running for Texas 14 district.
Economic issues, prison reform, and health care are all parts of the justice Democrats platform if you refer to the website. They are very much aligned with JDs main focus which is ending corruption in our government. If they hold progressive views (maybe not every single one) and refuse to accept big donor money that’s pretty much the definition of all the justice democrats.
I hope her campaign and/or JD is doing enough on the ground to make sure sufficient number of people know her. Right now I see very little news on her candidacy outside the usual suspects – TYT/Secular Talk/ HR/TJDS. Manchin had been running ads since six months ago, and the one internal poll till now has not been good. I hope JD has enough of a plan on how to counter TV ads with a different groundgame and voter outreach strategy, but it’s about time we started seeing some evidence.
I understand completely. I’ve decided to keep my monthly donations going because I agree that the JD candidates are awesome.
After listening to Kyle Kulinski’s account of what happened, I decided not to penalize the monthly support for either the Young Turks or the candidates, because it was the staff that (probably correctly) wanted to detach from Cenk to avoid any superfluous (and ridiculous) controversy that would be trotted out to discredit the whole movement. Cenk’s comments on this on the Hour One show were really refreshing, undramatic, and reassuring. I’m convinced that this is just a turn in the road, not a derailment.
I imagine I’m not the only one torn with this situation with the Justice Democrats drama last week. I personally believe the organization to have made an absurd decision and to be hypocrites since there is no way none of the people making the decisions have never said or done something they regret in their past. Anyways, I’ve already chosen to no longer support their organization and stopped giving them the monthly contributions I’ve been giving since their inception.
The reason I’m torn is I still support the idea and the candidates. I’d like to financially support them but choosing just one is difficult, I prefer the method of giving a monthly amount that would go to all or them or something similar as long as not a single dime went to the Justice Democrats organization. I don’t have any candidates in my state so no favorites. So, yeah, this is basically a big mess and totally unnecessary which, unless I’m the only one that has made this choice, unfortunately means a lot of these fine candidates will be losing financial support that did nothing wrong.
Thanks for this Cenk. Please keep informing us all which candidates the movement needs to continue to support. I’ve seen others calling for you to create yet another organization to push for reform in the Democratic Party. But it seems that the JDs might have just won the argument for the need for a new party. If you helped organize the left to start an American Labor Party by bringing Greens, Labor Unions, and DSA together, I think you’d find the power struggle in JDs would become irrelevant when all their candidates and other fledgling left candidates would fall in line, including redeemable progressive Democrats.
Every time. Every single solitary time I see JD I see them throwing you under the bus. Just like when I see DNC I see Debbie saying Bernie people are “Violent” & “Throwing chairs” and Tommy too-too sitting RIGHT next to Bernie and being unable to say the words “Yes we are for medicare for all.”
I see it in my Prime Ministers equivocation on answers and I saw it in the leadership race for what was a viable option to me and the left in Canada and they chose to install this orange Trudeau.
We are attacked on all sides and the only thing that gives me any hope is to cover the image of JD and focus on the candidate instead.
Gosh, Cenk – neither one of these alleged “Justice Democrats” saids that they were running in order to “challenge patriarchy” like Alexandra Rojas says. They kept going on about economic issues, justice reform, prison reform, health care, etc. They seemed to have very little in common with the goals of Justice Democrats as described by Chakrabarti and Rojas in their recent statement.
Cenk you’re a big man for mentioning Justice Democrats here. I can tell your body language is tense. I do want to hear your statement on what I feel is a Salem Witch Hunt, and then try to move on. If you have Sargon of fucking Akkad defending you, then this is truly a bum rush.
LIke Jimmy Dore said……When JD start taking Corporate money because of those who kicked Cenk and Kyle then what JD staff did is solely because of PURE ignorance….

And I hereby pardon you.

Are you sure they are really JD candidates?
