What Cenk said in the ENTIRE vid is A LIE!? this way of talking IF Cenk was STILL a Muslim would be seen as Taqiyya……
Turkey is New World animal and British spread it throughout the British EMPIRE!? but Asia had a similar Fowl that works just as same as Turkey(Bird). The Country in ENGLISH is spelled and viewed as name after a Bird but THIS IS Orientalism LYING to people about Non-European History. In Turkish latin letters. Ataturk with a committee named Anatolia as TURKIYE!!!!! TURK=name of people called themselves since ancient times and IYE= means Owners of land or Land of Hnance TurkIYE = LAND OF THE Turks OR Turks owner of the Land!??!!?!
Regarding the story of Islam. Cenk is A LAIR and go to your local Mosque to learn about Islam. I dont have my citations to give references soo i can’t elaborate without sharing proofs/sources. BUT what i can SAY for CERTAIN is that Cenk IS LYING ABOUT ISLAM!? PLZ ask an Islamic scholar at ur region about Origins of Allah and WHY Mecca was viewed as an ABRAHAMIC site.
On the leftovers thing, are y’all not aware that you can freeze things???? Just be sure to divvy that shit before you do; I once forgot to split up some leftover ziti and it was a bitch and a half to break off a serving-sized chunk from the massive pasta brick it became lol
The turkeys-are-from-India story is Cenk showing off one of his most debilitating weaknesses — the enthusiastic conviction with which he will spout utter nonsense because he himself believes it to be true.
At least once a month I catch Cenk doing this with an actual news story in which I have previous knowledge that alerts me to his BS. This always creates the discomfiting thought… “What else did he say today that is complete BS?”
This is why it is always important to fact-check, even a source one normally trusts. Before I share or repeat things I learn from TYT, I do my own fact-checking first.
Just to be clear, I am not saying that Cenk is full of BS all the time or cannot be a trusted news source. No one is perfect. No reasonable person demands perfection. The moral of the story is simply that it is wisest to do one’s own fact-checking before sharing or repeating news stories.
The moral of the story is Simply…. Seerah. :D
Deb, that’s LA people for you. I’m from Norther Cali as well. (Specifically the Bay Area).
LA folks are a little different than us when the shoot the sh$t.
Poor Cenk must’ve had that rub off on him, that Elevator Pitch type Confidence. LOL
That or after having to watch FoxNews for so many years, the confidence of nonsense has finally rubbed off.
But really he’s a good guy and most of the time they do their diligence in research.
At the very least they do more than what we see on the Corporate News that is all smoke and mirrors.
To be fair, Cenk clearly states he’s talking about the “word” turkey (replay it). So even though the Turkey bird wasn’t the same as the North American bird, the Eurotrash settlers thought they were the same and named them after the Turkey bird.
Yeah, I agree, Cenk’s enthusiasm gets the better of his knowledge on occasion. I had a spidey feeling (BS) about the Turkey story, then a 2-minute wikipedia search gave me a better (but less fun) sense of the history. He often plays up (or just is) the family patriarch who must dispense his wisdom to all, and there are only a few on the network who will call baloney on air…
Mind you, that’s also what I enjoy most about Cenk–his ability to create a narrative around complex issues so it seems understandable. That’s his talent, and undoubtedly one of the main reasons TYT has grown in popularity.
@simplyseerah Im spiritual and i feel like cenk is wicked biased when it comes to religious discussion. It seems to be one topic he just swings far to one side on. Happy to read your comment! I agree evangelical christians are def pushing the allah=antichrist thing wicked hard it drives me fucking nuts. Thats a super interesting story about the satanic versus though!
Thanks Aidalis, I really like Cenk, but sometimes his lack of knowledge of Islamic Arguments seems to surface every once in a while. A lot of the Muslim community in Europe and the States actually are aware of TYT and really respect the network despite it’s Atheist leanings. This is because for the most part they stand up for truth and justice no matter what. That’s what drives me crazy about Cenk’s jabs at Islam every blue moon. The guy clearly only has basic knowledge of the arguments, hence probably one of the reasons why he left Islam. (i.e. if you only read and learn the attacks on a faith without learning the counter-arguments, you’ll eventually loose faith.) But really that’s no problem. I love Cenk and TYT anyways. I just wish they would get in touch with a religious Muslim and ask a few questions about a subject before giving their opinion.
I’m glad to see you’re spiritual. Most people are in the States. I was raised in Northern California as an agnostic for most of my early life. I then decided to start practicing Islam in 2001, 6 months before 9/11. (Go figure, worst luck in history.) During these years I’ve heard all the arguments against my faith and have worked endlessly with may organization to counter the Islamophbia Industry. You can check out my Channel to Youtube called SimplySeerah, I wrote and produced all the material on there.
His father’s name was Abd-u-llah meaning the servant of Allah. That is the primary reason he chose Allah over the rest of the 356 deities in Mecca. One deity for each day of the lunar year. And, he was also opted by the fact that Allah’s wife, Allat was already a sanctioned and highly venerated goddess amongst the Arabic tribes.
Islam claims that it is a continuation of a faith that started with Adam and Eve and went all the way down to Abraham. The Black Cube in Makkah known as the Ka’bah was said to have been first built by Abraham. So from the get go the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was claiming that the faith he espoused to pre-dated the Pagans belief in Makkah.
From a neutral historical perspective this wouldn’t be a far-fetched claim. The only reason the scientific community tends to lean towards paganism always being the source ideology of the Abrahamic faiths, is because of archiological finds in Mespotamia and Egypt. Archology doesn’t care about theology or faith, they just check what is oldest and then make a theory from there. And since Mesopotamian Paganism is the oldest beliefs they found to date, everyone then tends to make a story that Judaism, Christianity and Islam must’ve come from them.
Either way though, the concept of one main higher god was always found even in Pagan faiths. Apparently in Ancient Mesopotamia Marduk fought with another god and overpowered it and became the main god which all other gods were subservient. In makkah the pagans tended to think in the same manner and would call the main creator and sustainer of the universe Allah, but then at the same time add other gods with other powers along with Him.
The word Allah comes from Aramaic and means “The God” which makes it singular in totality. You can’t make it into a plural. And from the get go the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) claimed that this term dated back to the time of Abrahman to describe “The Creator.” There are also other terms used to describe Allah like “The Lord of the Heavens and Earth.” “The Creator of Life and Death.” etc. So even if you removed the word Allah from the Quran Muslims would still understand and be able to worship God, because He’s a concept, or description rather than a singular name.
I think this type of argumentation and focus on names stemmed from the proselytization approach of Jehovah’s witnesses, who come and knock on your door saying, “You know god has a name and his name is Jehovah.” LOL It doesn’t work like that in Islam. We believe in Allah because of how he’s described, not because He’s named so. And even if you slapped the name Allah on an Idol that doesn’t mean it owns the name or changes the concept of who Allah is. There are core theological concepts which make God who He is and is why we worship Him.
1.) He’s the Creator
2.) He’s the All-Knowing
3.) He’s the All-Powerful
4.) He is unique and ONE
5.) He doesn’t have a beginning or end. (i.e. therefore he cannot become a created being like an idol or man.)
etc.
on pagan festivities – i myself am partial to the stories of Roman Saturnalia. look it up, heaps of fun. they exchanged homemade gifts and silly joke gifts and even stuff like ugly winter jumpers!
side note: i loathe christmas time (especially that fuckin music) so i find it helpful to grasp on to any meaning from it’s pagan roots coz I’m a dweeb who likes comparative religions a bit tooooo much but also, in australia none of the US/Euro traditions make any goddamn sense – primarily because they’re all based on the seasonal changes and it’s usually 40+ fuckn degrees (104 F) here. So yeah, even the pagan stuff makes no sense but it’s very fun to taunt my catholic aunt and uncle about it all day rather than play into the jesus bullshit. ugh. christmas is almost here. it looooms.
Brett – instead of presents from mama, ask her to, as a gift in your name, sponsor a child / give to charity / help someone else with the money etc. We started doing this years ago instead of buying presents for each other (all adults now). Help someone else who actually needs it and simultaneously take the pressure off yourself /family by not running around, buying excesses amounts of shit for people who already have enough shit.
This is such a wonderful suggestion. Living on social security doesn’t make it easy to buy for my children and grandchildren, but I can knit a hat or scarf and then donate a few dollars in their name. They seem to be happy with it.
I’m constantly underemployed (try working in film and tv in melbourne australia. UUUGGGHHHAAA) so i never have enough money to buy fabulous things for my family (and really never expect any presents myself – I just rarely need anything and am happy to go without) but when I’m really strapped for like, mothers day – I make ‘promises’ booklets, like, 20-30 little dockets with a range of tasks I know mum needs help with like, ‘1 hour sorting your files on computer’ ‘2 hours clearing weeds in the garden’ ‘1 day of mother/daughter time’. essentially promising horrific things but that i know are appreciated and wanted and since we’re all past the age of 25 she can’t just ‘make us do chores’ anymore. i think homemade gifts are underrated and can be totally perfect – wish i could knit!
On capitalism, I think we can distinguish between it and Christmas. I have my problems with capitalism, but the things we like about Christmas go beyond the capitalist bit. Decorating everything is fun and it looks great and it’s something we do together. The songs remind us of Christmases past when we seem to forget any worries we had. The sights sounds and smells aren’t just some chemical mixture cooked up in some capitalist dungeon – they’re the results of human efforts! All this human experience and talent is focused into this one time of year and kicked into overdrive. Yes, that is something capitalism knows how to manipulate – but still, this kind of dynamism and effort to make a short stretch of the year special and different from the day-to-day is something we want. There’s a reason why Dickens wrote one of his stories on Christmas; because at heart its not about the material experience
“Decorating everything is fun and it looks great and it’s something we do together. The songs remind us of Christmases past when we seem to forget any worries we had. Well said!! Nostalgia is huge during this time. I love the music, food and decorations that remind of my childhood. Everything I do takes me back just a little bit and I’m also creating new memories that I’ll look back at 20+ years from now.
I always do turkey soup with the leftovers on the third day after the dinner. Here in Japan, Labor Day is celebrated every year on November 23rd, which just so happened to coincide with Thanksgiving this year. However nobody gets that next day off, and since I do the whole meal at my little place and expect people to be rolling around stuffed I always postpone my dinner to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. That way people can have the next day off to eat the food they took home from my dinner. Costco over here helps loads with the cost of food from home, I got our 25 lb. turkey from there and got a little spiral ham as well. I roasted the turkey with stuffing I made, made the gravy from scratch as well as the mashed potatoes, candied Okinawa yams, cajun kale greens with rutebaga, Brussels sprouts, fresh corn pudding and rolls I always make from scratch. I also made a molasses pecan pie, a pumpkin pie, brownies and gingerbread. We capped it off with vanilla ice cream we made using Ben & Jerry’s recipe book and an ice cream maker.
I love Thanksgiving, I am well aware of how Native Americans feel about many aspects of this time but I know they and all the world’s peoples are also well aware of harvest festivals that take place in one form or another all over the planet. I consider Thanksgiving a type of harvest festival and treat it as such, no pilgrim stories. Been doing it at my place here in Tokyo for over 30 years. This year old friends and new friends from several countries including the US and Japan came, about 8 of us this time. Last year it was 11 people, some years ago it was 30! You never know so a good sized turkey handles it. Plenty for folks to take home, plenty for me to enjoy leftovers for a few days. Tonight I make turkey soup with the carcass and add carrots, green beans and noodles. Nice Thanksgiving finish.
Fuck Xmas, stopped that nonsense decades ago.
I do New Year’s. Japanese New Year is long and fun, but I especially like Chinese New Year’s which comes a month or two later.
I love Ana but I love when she is not on because the post games or a lot longer when she is not around thought I have been watching every single post game from 2012? Or whatever is on the archives and usually they are way shorter when she is on them because she cannot wait to go home LOL. There is nothing wrong with that and I still love her but with that said I’m glad she is not on the plus games .
Freeze some. The best use is Turkey Lurkey with Gravy. Layer a lightly well oiled casserole dish with a lid. Stuffing, mashed potatoes, thin layer of yam thing, Stuffing, cranberry sauce layer, turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes, pour gravy over the top. Bake 350 with top on and 15 or 20 take the lid off. Turn oven off, rest 10 minutes. Can be served with quality sour cream and extra cranberry sauce.
I read both pages linked all the way through. Will file this under “how many angels can fit on the head of a pin?” and other vigorous arguments revolving around things that cannot be proved and which bear no relevant influence on anything in the actual real world. In other words… religion. (Not to be confused with faith or God).
Ok cool no problem. I understand that believing in the Super Natural is something based on Faith, and cannot be viewed as fact driven. Actually most of the stuff we believe is based on faith in one sense or another. Even the theories we take from Physicists are based on “Faith” that they know what they’re talking about and reached sound conclusion.
Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean that then we dismiss how a faith interprets their religious texts. All religions are viewed through the lens of their followers. So it isn’t fair to approach the faith and interpret it as you please. The Satanic Verses are not an authentic story according to Muslims. And again even if it was, it didn’t happen how the Islamophobes like Salman Rashdi try to present it. The Arabic is worded so that Satan would’ve changed what the Pagans heard, rather than what the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said.
I guess as the certified “Religious Muslim Member” of the group I got to correct Cenk on the “Satanic Verses” issue.
Technically speaking the Hadeeth or narration which talks about this event is known as Mawdhoo’ah or fabricated. It doesn’t have a chain of narration which makes it authentic.
In addition to this the word Allah was used before the apparent “Satanic Verses” incident. There were many verses already revealed from the Quran using the word Allah to describe the one true God. And this was clear and known to the Makkan Pagans the persecuted the Muslims for the firist 13 years of Muhammad’s (pbuh) prophethood. They understood the distinction clearly.
Also there weren’t just 3 gods in Makkah, there were hundreds (over 300). They had many names and were quite similar to the gods of ancient Mesopotamia. Again, the Pagan Arabs of Makkah knew clearly that the God of Muhammad (pbuh) was different than their gods and that is why they persecuted him and the Muslims.
Finally, as many of the scholars of the past have said, even if the Satanic verses were real then the way the Arabic is worded, actually Satan didn’t change the words in Muhammad’s (pbuh) mouth, but instead changed the sounds in the Pagans ears for them to hear what they want to hear.
Problem is Christian Evangelicals want to make Islam appear to have been created from the Devil. So they work very hard to make it appear that Muhammad (pbuh) was influenced by a Demon. They’ll rewrite stories and reinterpret them to seem as violent and evil as possible. Of course all the while ignoring the fact that Jesus apparently was tempted by Satan and had to go and live in hell for a while.
I love your stuff Cenk, and don’t mind that you’re an Atheist. But bro, please allow Muslims to explain themselves and spend a little time learning our replies to such attacks on our faith. You don’t have to believe it, but you at the very least have to allow us to explain Islamophobic propaganda. Thanks TYT and keep up the great work.
Three chickens and mac n cheese is GENIUS for Thanksgiving. Dude, how about Carnitas for Thanksgiving dinner? Or Succotash? It’s ridiculously delicious, or you ain’t making it right.
Cenk is often vastly incorrect in his recognition of linguistic coincidences or similarities, maybe(I don’t claim to express myself well, I just hope you may see what I mean). Language is another weird area. It’s all good. He obviously means well. Just my ruling(I’m not on the TYT Supreme Court).
The whole idea of A/B testing and Marketing itself strikes me as kinda creepy, almost sinister. A Salesman wouldn’t say that, though.
YMMV, as always.
“Who would rather sprinkle goat’s blood in different corners of the temple?”
I would. If it was that or eat a meal with my relatives, I’d cut the goat myself without hesitation.
My Dad, who grew up during the depression, made Turkey Soup every year with the carcass and whatever. Orzo, carrots and add from there. It’s best if you cook for two days and freeze portions. We ate it all winter. Ummm!
I did as he was saying it. As much as I like TYT, Cenk and his lack of basic research (while he also criticizes others for not doing basic research) is extremely frustrating. He has a tendency to assume he knows way more than he actually does.
Actually, turkeys were originally from Mexico. The Europeans brought them over, and many languages named the bird after India because people thought that the America’s was part of the Indies. The association with Turkey happened because real turkeys from the Americas were confused with another kind of bird sold by Turkish merchants.
The Europeans brought them back to Europe – you Americans already had them.
Also, they didn’t think America was part of the Indies, they thought it was India itself – since Columbus sailed west to find another route to India and then claimed he had found it when he reached the new world.
We call them Turkeys either because people thought they were the same birds imported via Turkey to Europe, or because these birds were shipped to Europe via Turkey.

Freeze half the turkey after your meal, defrost it a month latter
Watched this with a theologian , honestly she was screaming because of the sheer level of misinformation :‘)
2 things.
First, my family does do mac n cheese for every thanksgiving. It’s super bomb delicious and homemade.
Second, this was a super interesting post game show. You wrinkled my brain.
The End.
I love college football and hate the NFL.
I think college football is actually fun to watch while the NFL is the same two boring offenses over, and over, and over again.

Japanese New Year is long and fun, but I especially like Chinese New Year’s which comes a month or two later.
incredible pg thank you
I love Ana but I love when she is not on because the post games or a lot longer when she is not around thought I have been watching every single post game from 2012?
Here are two very good articles refuting the so-called “Satanic Verses” claim.
http://www.letmeturnthetables.com/2008/08/did-prophet-muhammad-pbuh-speak.html
http://www.islamic-awareness.org/Polemics/sverses.html
That’s all I was trying to say.
Cenk can you please source the Muhammed thing. Thank you!
His ass as usual when it comes to religion specifically and culture and history in general.
A self professed none-reader should be the last guy you take your info from.
Ummm!
Jesus Fucking Christ!!?! How the hell can you keep coming up with the best Post Game Ever? Awesome education. thank you so much
Wikipedia (not that I trust it) says Cenk is full of shite. I keep researching.
Doin God’s work
WTF , Turkeys are native to North America. They didn’t come from India. Please google it.
I did as he was saying it. As much as I like TYT, Cenk and his lack of basic research (while he also criticizes others for not doing basic research) is extremely frustrating. He has a tendency to assume he knows way more than he actually does.
It’s very possible that the turkeys that first arrived in Turkey came from India and not directly from North America.
Actually, turkeys were originally from Mexico. The Europeans brought them over, and many languages named the bird after India because people thought that the America’s was part of the Indies. The association with Turkey happened because real turkeys from the Americas were confused with another kind of bird sold by Turkish merchants.
OK that makes more sense LOL
Isn’t Mexico PART of North America? Just askin’…
Because the Europeans brought them over but they were from Mexico? ummm
Believe it or not, in Portuguese the word for turkey is Peru.
