Never before has the world witnessed such a dramatic scale of human suffering. In fact, more people have been forced to flee their homes by conflict and crisis today than at any time since World War II.

Last year, the number of people displaced by conflict worldwide surpassed 65 million. In Syria alone, six years of war have driven 13.5 million people from their homes. Millions more have been uprooted in Afghanistan, Nigeria, Yemen and elsewhere. If displaced people could form a country, it would be the 21st largest in the world, with a population greater than Great Britain’s.Only 1% of the world’s refugees are resettled to a third country.

More about IRC:

  1. I love this. Thank you. I went to Massindi, Uganda in 2005 & watching this brought back a flood of memories. Beautiful country & amazing, kind & generous people.

  2. The United States State Department’s Refugee Resettlement Program brings over 50,000 Permanent Resident Refugees to America every year. After brief transitional services, they are left to fend for themselves. After witnessing the plight of the Lost Boys of Sudan in Chicago, Chris Coen started a Refugee Resettlement Watchdog Organization, Friends of Refugees: [email protected]
