Pittsburgh News Anchor Fired For Racist Comments

In The Young Turks on YouTube by Hlarson1 Comment

Long time Pittsburgh news anchor Wendy Bell was recently fired for racist comments on her Facebook page. Should she have been fired? Suspended? Ana Kasparian, Hasan Piker (Pop Trigger), and Grace Baldridge, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

“The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Hearst Television, the parent station of WTAE-TV, said in a statement Wednesday that it had “ended its relationship” with Emmy-winning anchor Wendy Bell because her “recent comments on a WTAE Facebook page were inconsistent with the company’s ethics and journalistic standards.”

Two weeks after the attack, Bell wrote on her professional Facebook page, “You needn’t be a criminal profiler to draw a mental sketch of the killers who broke so many hearts.”

The original post, which has since been removed but was captured in screenshots, continued:

They are young black men, likely teens or in their early 20s. They have multiple siblings from multiple fathers and their mothers work multiple jobs. These boys have been in the system before. They’ve grown up there. They know the police. They’ve been arrested.”*

  1. Ana,
Regarding the story about the anchor that made racist comments on her Facebook page about African American criminals and your obvious call to have her fired: I would like to point out that our previous show you said something to the fact that all Gypsies are criminals. When Cenk tried to soft in your verbiage you double down on your statements. So if you’re calling out for her to be fired, which she should be, maybe you should take a closer look at yourself and your prejudices. Don’t you think you should hold yourself to a higher standard. After all you consider yourself a progressive. Do you not?
