Flint Not Replacing Lead Pipes Anytime Soon

Flint, Michigan has no plans to change its lead pipes anytime soon. It’s so costly and time consuming that the governor has decided to go in a different direction. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

“The corroded lead water pipes ferrying tainted tap water to the city of Flint, MIwill stay as is for now, officials said this week.

In a press conference Wednesday, Michican gov. Rick Snyder said that replacing the pipes is not in the city’s short-term plans. Instead, officials say they arefocused on supplying bottled water and filters to the city’s affected residents—many of whom are below the poverty line—who have no clean water for activities like drinking, bathing, and cooking.

“In terms of short-term, it’s a lot of work to take out pipes, to redo all of the infrastructure, that’s a whole planning process,” Snyder told reporters.”*

  1. so you don t repair your infrastructure

instead you use emergancy measures long term

i guess the gouvernor in charge wants to turn your country into a 2nd world state.

in the 2nd world you use canisters of water, in the 1st world you have safe water supplied

the USA is a 2nd world country from flint going out to all of the USA

the USA is China, Brazil.. and its going down

  2. Water isn’t known as the “universal solvent” for nothing. Corrosion control chemisty has been around for decades, its not a mystery. The Flint scenario, old leaded infrastructure, has played out time and again across the US and Europe. Corrosion control practices are the answer until the old infrastructure can be replaced. Or not.

That tells me the Flint decision was simply one of expediency and , most likely, disregard for the pesky “takers” who , in the view of many of the right, have refused to take advantage of the free market opportunities provided by enlightened conservative governance.
