Socialism is still a dirty word in American politics, but that is beginning to change. Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is spreading his message of democratic socialism and people are taking notice. More young people have a favorable view of socialism, and less people think it is something to be afraid of. Check out the AJ+ video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zq-2…

I think it is a mistake to talk about capitalism and socialism as a black and white choice. In fact every democracy is a balance between capitalism and socialism. Here are some of the dimensions I have identified:
1. What does government own and operate (dictionary definition)?
2. What controls does government have over corporations?
3. What controls do corporations have over government (corruption)?
4. What benefits and safety net does government provide to citizens?
5. What compulsory services do citizens provide to government?
And most important:
6. What portion of GDP is paid to non-supervisory workers? This has fallen from 52% to 42% since 1972.
