A 21 year old babysitter in the UK has slept with an 11 year old boy. She is facing no jail time because the boy’s father testified on her behalf. The judge also said that because he was mature for an 11 year old and she was immature as a 20 year old, the age gap doesn’t seem so extreme. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.
Should she be in jail? Is there a double standard here? Let us know in the comments below.

“A babysitter who had sex with an 11-year-old boy has been spared jail after his father, who had formerly been a sexual partner of hers, told the court that his son had regarded it as “a notch on his belt”.
The Swindon Advertiser reported that Jade Hatt, 21, “climbed astride” him last November, removed her clothes and then took off the boy’s.
The judge gave Hatt a suspended sentence on the grounds that while she was “immature”, her victim was “unusually mature”, which in his view narrowed “the arithmetic age gap”, according to the Daily Mail.
Hannah Squire, prosecuting, told the court that: “The defendant was friends with the boy’s father, with whom she had had a brief sexual relationship.”

There is a double standard here. It reflects the societal and situational double standard regarding sexual encounters. The boy can’t get pregnant (he could get the girl pregnant but that is clearly a less onerous burden), the boy is unlikely to be slut shamed, there is no evidence of virginity to be lost with males, and there is much less likelihood of coercion in mature female/immature male sex.
I am not saying it always ok anymore then the alternate is always an obvious abomination, it’s just far more likely to have a negative impact on a female victim then on a male victim.
