When women get pregnant they tend to gain weight, but now there is a trend to fat shame women who are expecting. Kim Kardashian experienced this trend after her appearance at MTV’s Video Music Awards. People created memes mocking her size and her outfit. It didn’t stop there as media outlets jumped in on the fun and put those meme’s together for everyone to view. Pregnancy is not a blanket protection from the world. I don’t care if she’s pregnant or not. I don’t feel the need to insult her appearance because I don’t care about that either.
As you said, she makes here living selling her appearance and making every little thing about her life public. If she wasn’t pregnant but gained a little weight, she’d get the same. I don’t think pregnancy is really a significant part of the shaming, though obviously the reason for the weight gain.
As to Anna’s point about the people showing pictures of themselves: why the hell should they do that? They aren’t the ceaselessly self-promoting egomaniacs with millions of dollars, nor do they necessarily think of themselves as superior or better looking. Stop projecting some weird social stigma onto this story that isn’t really there.
