The Martian is a bestselling novel about one man’s struggle to survive after being stranded on Mars with limited resources and limited time. It’s a man vs nature sci-fi story, but it also has a foot in real science.

Kim Horcher went to NASA’s Jet Propulsion lab to ask Dr. Jim Green (Director, Planetary Science division) and Andy Weir (author of The Martian) more, along with a Q&A with Matt Damon (Mark Watney, The Martian) and Ridley Scott (Director, The Martian)

The Martian will be in theaters October 2.
