They say that money can’t buy style – and that’s a good thing… because it means that style is not limited to rich people!
In this video, Styleogue NYC host Bec Susan Gill sits down with fashion commentator (and Japanese reality TV star) Meaney to discuss how to look stylish, even when you’re broke!
The top three ways for women to look stylish with minimal money in the bank include:
1. Accessorise. With great accessories, you can change the look of your outfits (even old ones) – and bring them into the new season just by adding some of the latest cheap costume jewellery. Meaney’s tip: a bold statement necklace will totally distract people from noticing that you have worn the same dress over and over… because it draws attention to your face and neck!
2. Curate your wardrobe. To look stylish, you really don’t need to be a slave to the latest styles. Work out what looks good on you, and slowly build up a wardrobe of good, well-made and well-fitting staple pieces that you can mix and match. Your look will be timeless and stylish!
3. Work with what you have. Assess your wardrobe as it is. What do you have? What do you want? Want a crop top? Why now get the scissors out on an old tee that isn’t quite working. And while you’re in the cutting mode – why not turn a pair of old jeans into a on-point pair of short shorts? Cost: zero.
