A heartbroken nation’s tension turned to mourning Thursday afternoon as news broke that the suspected gunman in an attack on a Charleston, South Carolina, church had been arrested, and the identities of his nine victims were released.
Dylann Roof, 21, allegedly entered the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church during a weekly Bible study meeting and opened fire around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Eight people were found shot to death at the scene, police said. Two others were transported to a hospital, where one later died.
Roof was captured Thursday morning in Shelby, North Carolina, according to Attorney General Loretta Lynch. Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen said Roof was arrested during a traffic stop.

I’m so happy that Cenk Uygur used his platform to better inform the public about the multi-sided nature of the shootings in SC. It’s sad that he simply cannot really comment upon the ways in which this act is mentally ill, as 99% of the people are ignorant of the the inner workings of their own brains and what can go wrong up there.
We know a lot now about why things go wrong up in our brains, and many things in our environment which can lead us into trouble. Racist extremes of thought, religious extremes of thought, culturally historical extremes of thought – world-wide business extremes of thought (think the 1%) – all extreme forms of thought – which overtly CAUSE these things to be more likely, are locked up in the mysteries of the mind. All the above are aberrant frameworks of thought, when you consider scientific understanding. If we really believe in all these things, as a species we must be suicidal bent on extinction overall.
High time we demand to know more about how this could happen. If the GOVERNOR of a state cannot reason out why it’s happening, given their state’s long history steeped in it, well – one editorial by Cenk Uygur won’t change this overnight – but it’s a start!

divide and conquer is their method of operation. its not surprising to see people so ignorant that they let themselves be used to further that method. all those who talk shit about liberals are part of this ignorance. how stupid and pathetic the rest of the country thinks you are. your the only ones who don’t know your slaves too. so now your all against liberty and equality. allow me to help you by telling you, that is how everyone else knows your a bigot. I you talk that shit about liberals, anti-gay marriage, immigration, etc. your a bigot plain as day. there is no way for you to escape that fact. my point is, all of you who try to pretend your not bigots while stubbornly maintaining your bigotry, we know exactly who you are. you cannot hide and yes you are a bigot. don’t get mad at the Turks or me for calling you out.
This is yet another example of muddying the waters. Immediately change the narrative by throwing in alternative scenarios and not addressing the obvious facts. FoxNews cut their teeth on this type of behavior. If only they would step outside of their circle and into the real world they would see that people are generally good. People of all races and religions. This 21 yr old was manipulated into thinking this country is something it is not. He became a racist and hate filled because of some influence in his life. It is not normal to hate others. Go to a playground sometime. Do you see white children not playing with african-american or asian or spanish speaking children? You won’t. Challenge your beliefs by looking outside your little hate-filled box. The world is full of so much more love than hate. Start believing that and you won’t want to kill anyone. It’s a shame so many peoples lives have to end because of ignorance. Maybe one day we can all move beyond the surface. I doubt we are all that shallow.
