“Hillary Clinton may be a 67 year old baby boomer but the just-released Spotify playlist for her presidential campaign clearly caters to millenials.
The list of 14, overwhelmingly upbeat songs, features no songs older than 1999, emphasizing recent smashes like Ariana Grande’s zesty “Break Free” and Pharrell’s joyous “Happy.”
Optimism and valour dominate the lyrical themes, evident in songs like Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” and Sara Bareilles’ “Brave.”
There’s also a cover of an older, more politicized number, a version of “Wake Up, Everybody,” a 1975 smash by Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes. The recording Clinton features dates from 2010, interpreted by John Legend, The Roots, Common and Melanie Fiona.” *
