“CNN anchor Fredricka Whitfield has sparked outrage after calling the gunman accused of planting pipe bombs outside Dallas police headquarters and opening fire on cops ‘courageous and brave’.

Whitfield made the remarks during a televised interview about James Boulware, who allegedly stormed the building in the early hours of Saturday before engaging police in a deadly stand-off.

The 50-year-old told CNN legal analyst Philip Holloway: ‘It was very courageous and brave, if not crazy as well, to open fire on the police headquarters, and now you have this scene, this standoff.’
