The release of a report from the U.S. Department of Justice that revealed a number of disturbing racist emails between Ferguson police officers and local court officials has resulted in the firing of one officer and two other city employees being placed on leave. The racist emails in question contained a number of anti-African American slurs and jokes including a joke aimed at U.S. President Obama.
Ferguson Mayor James Knowles was the first to break the news of the firing in a press conference to reporters, condemning the emails of the officials in question. The report also found that the police department had an anti-minority bias, focusing on generating as much revenue from blacks and other minorities as possible. Mayor Knowles took no questions from the press after reading a brief prepared statement.”
