Gay conversion therapies that treat homosexuality like a mental disorder are committing consumer fraud, according to a New Jersey Superior Court Judge Peter F. Bariso Jr.’s ruling, which states that it’s illegal to represent homosexuality as anything but a “normal variation on human sexuality” or advertise “success rate” when there’s no “factual basis for calculating” those numbers. The case started over a lawsuit against an organization called Jews Offering New Alternatives for Healing (JONAH), which offers a so-called “gay cure.” We take a look at the case and discuss what it says about homosexuality, science, and fraud, in this Lip News clip with Gabriel Mizrahi and Jackie Koppell.
