“House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) has had many defenders as a tries to beat back a controversy over speaking to a white nationalist group. Some, like David Duke and his allies, haven’t much helped Scalise’s cause.

Others, such as Rep. Cedric Richmond, a black Louisiana Democrat, have been crucial to helping him weather the controversy over his decision to speak to the group in 2002.

No defender, though, has been more important to the current iteration of what will be an ongoing conversation around race and the Republican Party than a new member of Congress: Rep.-elect Mia Love (R-Utah).

Love vigorously vouched for Scalise on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, saying that he should remain in leadership and that he had been helpful to her as she transitions to Washington.”* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.
