News today was wall-to-wall coverage of the hostage crisis in Australia, but not a word about a shooting spree outside Philadelphia that killed up to 5 people. While I’m here, I talk about a few other news items.
I noticed that Fox News had Nick Adams speaking on their show – he alleges that “Monday’s events have also prompted Australians to revisit their gun laws.”
What evidence does he have for this statement? Police and most social commentators here are voicing the opinion of how much worse this could have been were it not for our gun control laws.
After the Port Arthur massacre we managed to put the gun genie back in the bottle.
One hare-brained senator, Leyonhjelm, decided that if one or more of those guys in the cafe had been packing heat it all would have been fine. Or maybe not happened at all.
He said: “What happened in that cafe would have been most unlikely to have occurred in Florida, Texas, or Vermont, or Alaska in America, or perhaps even Switzerland as well,”
Because no one ever had a hostage situation or standoff in America.
