“You may have a seen a video on YouTube that shows a woman being detained by officers outside a Whataburger parking lot. The City of Corpus Christi released a statement on the months-old video that was just posted over the weekend.
The video shot on August 16th by Lanessa Espinosa (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC67kY5s47AUIpGhxKzNHr1g) shows her verbal confrontation with an on-duty Corpus Christi police officer. Sr. Officer Jerry Lockhart had been called to the parking lot of the Whataburger in Flour Bluff to back up on off-duty officer with Nueces County District Attorney’s Office. The off-duty officer had called for assistance after witnessing a large fight.
According to CCPD, Sr. Officer Lockhart was asking for everyone’s identification as he was being videotaped. The audio clearly has Lockhart telling Ms. Espinosa that the law requires her to provide identification when asked to do so by law enforcement conducting an investigation.”

So he needs her ID to investigate a fight? I call bullshit. If I don’t legally have to do something then that’s that. Charge me or leave me alone.
Bullshit Cenk! The cops need to start following the fucking law
I agree with Ana. No too searches too.
Cenk, two words,

I was speeding one time. I was going 90 on a 65 so yeah….TX State Trooper stopped me. I knew I was speeding and I admitted it. They asked to search my car in exchange to a speeding ticket. I agreed to the search cuz I had nothing to hide. 20 minutes later they told me not to speed and that was that. No ticket, not even a warning. It is okay to record….but this girl could have driven off peacefully that night. I am from TX so I disagree with this girls action.
I agree with Ana here.
I too agreed with Ana even though Cenk is correct as well. Calmly asking to see ID at the scene of an incident is not an outrageous request. What I was disturbed by though was a civilian and a rather young looking one at that, knew the state law and the officer did not. Or worse chose not.
