1. How old are you and what state do you live in?
27, Connecticut
2. When did you become a member of TYT?
When TYT joined Air America Radio, which I believe was 2006. I think my TYT member number isn’t as low as it should be because I have lost my credit card several times and had to rejoin.
3. How do you consume the show?
Podcast and YouTube videos
4. What field do you work in?
I am a third year medical student
5. How would you describe TYT in 5 words or less?
Keeping it real
6. Do you have a favorite TYT moment?
I honestly can’t even begin to narrow down my favorite TYT moments to just one. I used to love the conversations Jill and Cenk used to have on “Absolute Truth” just because of their brutal honesty. Cenk did an interview with a comedian pretending to be an over-the-top right wing republican several years back. I completely forgot the comedians name, but the interview was hilarious. There was also a show hosted by Ben, Wes Clark Jr, and Michael Shure and they spent the last 30 minutes of the second hour talking about being divorced, online dating, etc and it was so informative and refreshingly honest.
Maybe my favorite is the time in 2007 when I called into a post-game show a few days before my 21st birthday when they were taking viewer calls and Cenk wished me a happy birthday. That was awesome.
7. Who is your favorite co-host? Why?
Ben Mankiewicz. He is ridiculously witty and well-spoken. I started listening to the show when Cenk and Ben were cohosts and I loved their banter, so it’s great when he periodically joins.
8. What motivated you to take the extra step of becoming a paying member?
I wanted to listen to the full show on demand. I was living in a city at the time and I wanted to have it on my iPod to listen to when I was walking around and going places.
9. Are surprised that the The Young Turks has grown into a multiplatform network of multiple channels?
Not at all. Since I have been such a longtime member, I know how hard Cenk works and it was inconceivable to me that with all his dedication the channel wouldn’t turn into something huge.
10. Cenk often talks about the TYT brand as “truth telling.” What does this mean to you as a member?
As I stated above, Cenk and Jill used to have a whole show called “Absolute Truth,” and even though that particular show was about celebrity/pop culture, it really exemplified the entire ethos of the young turks. I feel like if Cenk was accidentally mic’ed up when he had a conversation with a friend in the bathroom, he wouldn’t sound any different than when he is talking on air. All personalities on mainstream television seem completely fake.
11. Which TYT host would you get coffee with? Which one would you go to the bar with? Who would you have dinner with?
Coffee – Dave Koller
Bar – Dave Koller
Dinner – Dave Koller (even if he makes me pay)
12. If you were a co-host on the show, which story would you cover? Why?
I think TYT does a great job covering the stories I care about. If I was a co-host I would serve to clarify or expound upon some points on the medical/science stories.
13. Have you ever communicated with other TYT fans? If so, how?
No
14. Has the show convinced you to change your position on a particular issue?
I’m not sure if I’ve changed my mind, but TYT has definitely made me think about certain issues differently and in a way I wouldn’t have otherwise. For example, I think prostitution should be legalized. This is something I probably would have never thought about otherwise.
15. Have you ever referred membership to anyone? If so, what did you say?
Maybe not membership, but I have definitely told friends to watch the show on youtube.
